  • Weeding…

This afternoon I firmly set myself to do a task that I hate…weeding.  It’s amazing that how quickly these annoying, persistent, and frustrating growths can take over areas of grass, flowerbeds, and concrete.  When I am being more lazy and trying to do a quick cleanup, I pull them and don’t always get the root as I should.  You know what happens…they come back, sometimes larger and stronger than before.  They spread like a virus and take over what is beautiful and can become out of control.

Weeds are like negative strongholds in our lives.  We all have them.  These are adverse aspects, behaviors, and mindsets that keep us from prospering emotionally, psychologically, physically, and spiritually.  These situations cause harm to ourselves, family, and loved ones.

So I decided today to dig up the weeds instead of pulling them out.  I wanted to get to the root, so it would no longer spread and continue to be destructive.  Only by getting to the root of our stronghold…taking a severe and direct look at ourselves and our actions, can we begin the process of growth, maturity, and change.

I know people who see the strongholds in their lives, but choose to ignore the consequences and continue to live their life in deceit and depravity.  If true, genuine change is to come, it has to be at the core of their soul.  It has to be deeply rooted in their heart.  If it is not, any attempts to change will be superficial and will grow
back, like a weed, with more power and strength to destroy anything in
its path. They have to want it on their own.  It can’t be of anyone else’s desires because then it won’t be real.  I hear people say that they want to change, but they don’t mean it.  They don’t have the strength and the courage to do the hard work it sometimes takes to conquer strongholds, selfishness, and destructive choices.  They wallow in their own weakness.  They blame others for the choices they make or they don’t make.  They want to claim that they can’t do it.  Well, they can’t…not on their own anyway.

Anyone who really wants change and growth will seek people to help encourage, support, and hold them accountable.  I know people who talk about change, but don’t make the appropriate actions to match their words.  They are frauds.  They are fooling themselves…and that’s okay because that is their own choice.

You have a choice too…you can either continue to be involved in the destructive cycle or you can remove yourself so you can be healthy and safe.  You can dig down and remove the root of the problem by finding the help and support you need to make productive changes and then do it!

It can happen.  You have to be willing and you have to take action.  Anything else is…empty and not worth anything.

  • This is very true. I guess we all have a lot of “weeding” we need to do in our own lives. Often, it’s not a pleasant task, but the results are always well worth it.
