  • 17 years ago today…

at 7:02am…after 36, yes 36 hours of induced labor, several weeks overdue, and after it all had to have a c-section…my girl was born.

I can’t believe so much time has gone by…

At exactly 7:02, I went in her room and jumped on her bed. I was telling her that this was the time she came into the world, wailing angrily while I was fatigued and the doctors thankfully put me out before I passed out :) . She’s happy with her gifts, we’re in and out today, and I hope for her that she has a good day.

We’ve had a rough go of it. Last night she was crying because she said that she was a bad person. This was in response to the continued consequences that continued to unfold based on her recent actions, up to and including the cancellation of my anxiously awaited 40th birthday trip to Mexico that I was going to take for 5 days next month. She’s lost driving privileges and her actions are more closely monitored than before. I can’t lie and say that I wasn’t upset or angry when I cancelled my plans, but with the busy schedule next month of summer school for the boys and VBS during the week I’d be going on my trip, her ability to drive was going to be crucial in order to make that happen.

Despite my own personal desires, I can’t reward poor behavior, so I made a sacrifice and left my sandy beach, cool blue ocean, tropical drink, solo-vacation behind. Yes, I’m greatly disappointed, but you have to do what you have to do…that’s it.

And I assured her…she’s not a bad person, she’s just made poor choices.  She can change them because it starts in her heart and that is within her control.  I told her I loved her.  She needed to hear that because it’s true even if I don’t like some of the choices she makes.

  • I am so sorry about your trip. Gosh, I know it’s tough, but I can understand your reasoning. Kids do grow up quickly! My oldest girl will soon be 11. I know similar times are coming for me. I’m praying now for the grace and stamina to handle it all.
